You may have never noticed it, but the joints between your driveway paver stones are packed with sand. This sand locks your pavers in place and keeps them from becoming loose. This same sand can also cause different types of weeds to grow up through, which in turn causes the stone to mold and change in appearance. Conventional washing equipment can be prone to blasting that sand right back up into your eyes.
